Review: South Place Hotel

The Location

South Place Hotel is a fresh, boho-esque yet luxurious hotel with 80 bedrooms, five very awesome bars and a large floor perfect for events. The hotel was designed with events in mind with its ranging wines and cocktail menus, fantastic dining experiences and space to have a boogie.

All before you end up laying on one of the comfiest beds you’ll ever lay on with your very own pillow menu.

It isn’t any wonder when you then find out that it was designed by Conran + Partners, an international architecture and interior design studio that is is driven by a strong and unwavering belief that great design improves the quality of people’s lives, so when you enter South Place Hotel, that’s the instant feeling you get.

South Place Hotel is in the best location, for both City workers and those wanting to use it as a base for exploring the capital. The hotel is moments away from Moorgate and Liverpool Street stations with very easy transport routes throughout the rest of London.

They also have their own valet service and parking and for just £50.00 they will park your car safely for you for 24 hours before safely delivering your car back when you are ready to check out.

South Place Hotel is also a very short walk to two of the most highly rated restaurants in London – Duck and Waffle and SUSHISAMBA. If you wish to travel a little further, then The Alchemist is a fantastic cocktail bar specialising in molecular mixology to create incredibly unique cocktails and sharing drinks.

The Room

There is always a buzz when you enter your hotel room for the first time. It’s the ultimate relaxation – hotel linen with a fantastic thread count, a full mini-bar if you fancy some treats and the hope of a fabulous bathroom. The South Place Hotel doesn’t disappoint.

We stayed in their ‘Wilson‘ room with a super-king size bed residing at the centre, generous wardrobe space, a large usable work desk and a stunning marble bathroom featuring one of the most extravagant walk-in showers I have ever seen with a shower head the size of a satellite dish which is so enjoyable it’s almost a guarantee that you will be late for work.

They don’t stop there though, they understand the importance of quality so instead of those bulky TV screens you get in some hotel’s as an afterthought, at South Place Hotel you get a Bang & Olufsen TV with a Library of free films, a lovely Nespresso machine, electric blackout blinds with a touch panel mood lighting and gorgeous St. Clements amenities by James Heeley.

The Treats & Breakfast

Then you have the extras! It was mine and Mark’s anniversary so staying here was a real treat in itself but the moment we arrived, it was clear to see that the South Place Hotel had treated us beyond expectation.

Rose petals shaped into a heart on the bed, balloons, flowers and a selection of stunning macaroons, truffles and a delightful little lemon cake with a bottle of champagne to welcome us. It’s these little touches that leave you feeling valued and appreciated.

The option to have breakfast delivered to you as well is the cherry on top. We chose what we wanted the evening before, left out a little note on our door handle with our choices and specified time and at exactly 09.30am, our chosen breakfast arrived on a fully laid yet fold-able table with delicious smoothies.

You wouldn’t want it any other way when you’re sat in your dressing gown and the TV playing in the background.

Service is high on the list here. The staff on the reception desk are friendly, have a high energy and are slick in their approach – nothing is too much. Then you have the service upstairs in the Michelin-starred restaurant, The Angler where service is passionate and dedicated.  South Place Hotel also offer a valet service with parking, which is beyond brilliant.

It can be a bit daunting arriving to an upmarket hotel in an old Ford Fiesta but the valet staff don’t bat an eyelid, they treat you exactly how they would treat someone with a Ferrari and that is with the simple embodiment of providing a luxurious and premium level of customer experience to everyone.

Child and Pet Friendly

Whilst we didn’t have a child or pet with us. We know that taking the kids and the dog somewhere can be tough but South Place Hotel hits the nail on the head.

For children up to the age of four they provide cots free of charge. For children between the age of 5 and 15, they offer interconnecting rooms which make fabulous family pads.

If you want to bring your four legged buddy then of course you can, they have bedrooms that are suitable for small to medium-sized pets for a small charge of £50.00.

South Place Hotel have also partnered with pet emporium, Pets Pyjamas, to make sure family pets have as much fun as their owners with their very own king size dog beds, a welcome gift, food bowls and a local dog guide – how could you possibly resist?

There’s lots of deals about to make this extra affordable. Buyagift offer a Michelin starred overnight stay at South Place Hotel for £350 which includes a superb 6 course tasting menu for two at The Angler, a half bottle of champagne in room and a fantastic breakfast.

TIP:  Buyagift often release discount codes, you might be able to get this at an extra bargain.

If you wish to book directly with South Place, then their prices start from a very reasonable £200pn weekend stay and £320pn for a weekday. Not bad at all considering the 5 star status and the location.

Whilst South Place is a superb hotel, the only snag we had whilst visiting was a smell of drains in our bathroom. This was reported and noted down by Reception for them to take immediate action to rectify this.
