Pork & Co
Pork & Co is a lovely little restaurant owned by the same folks that run Deason’s, one of Canterbury’s finest restaurants and can be found perfectly position on Sun Street. The exterior to Pork & Co is rustic, homely and welcoming and their pretty signage and cute entrance screams ‘come on in’. They have seating downstairs and upstairs with the upstairs being ridiculously cute and a little higgledy-piggledy but it adds character and charm.
Mac & Cheese. It’s been the sunlight of my day since the beginning of time and it gets better and better as time goes on and as chefs become more adventurous with it. Luckily for me, I live in Canterbury which is home to one of the best mac and cheese recipes known to man and I’m absolutely 100% not exaggerating (recipe pleeease?!). As a Pescatarian, I find it hard to find things on the menu whenever I go to restaurants that are primarily for meat eaters (Pork and Co as an example) but knowing they do mac & cheese makes any visit there a super easy decision.
So today I found myself with an hour to spare for lunch so I decided to head to my favourite little hideout – Pork and Co to order myself some mac & cheese. I usually take food away from there but today decided to sit in with a magazine and enjoy some of my own company for a little bit and respond to a bunch of e-mails!
I was served super quickly by really friendly faces and within 10 minutes of ordering my food, it was delivered piping hot and extra cheesy. It’s hard to describe and go into detail about mac & cheese because it is simply that – pasta and cheese so there isn’t always that much to rave about… BUT there is at Pork & Co… The cheese sauce they use is mystical and magical. It has a strong yet sweet flavour and has a gorgeous yellow/orange colour to it that screams ‘so much cheese’, that you just want to roll your sleeves up and jump right in!
It may be worth adding that I have no idea how good their actual pork is (remember, this is a pork-obsessed restaurant that mainly sell pork produce) so I absolutely cannot comment on that because I do not eat meat but what I can say about their pigs is that they are perfectly free-range, they are owned and raised by the people behind Pork & Co and they are treated extremely well and have a fantastic quality of life.
Mac & cheese is and always will be my guilty pleasure and I’ve been obsessed with their little restaurant since they opened. Their staff are super happy and friendly and go above and beyond for you, the food is of an exceptionally high standard and their service is fantastic. The restaurant is comfortable, suits take out and eating in and is of an exceptionally low price! I couldn’t recommend this beautiful place enough so if you are in Canterbury and are looking for a cheeky treat- their mac & cheese is honestly, the best I have ever had – try it! You won’t be disappointed!!
