“A little hidden harbour dream”
Ahhhh Rocksalt! I’ve been a good few times now and each time the location still gets me going. It’s centralised over the Folkestone harbour with lovely panoramic floor to ceiling views out over the English channel and a car park just outside. The restaurant is modern but fits well into the walls of the harbour and inside you are able to watch the chef’s get to work whilst being wined and dined in a beautiful candlelit location with the sun setting in the distance – beautiful!
Rocksalt take absolute pride in the food they make and it’s plain to see by their tantalising menu that the heart and soul of Rocksalt is the food they serve. The menu is fantastic and they utilise local farms, the coast and the Kent countryside showing how much they truly care about where they source their special ingredients from. I have been here a few times now and have always had a varied menu to choose my dishes from which I love. On this occasion, for my starter I had the calamari (obviously). For me, if there is calamari on the menu – I’ma getting it and this was one of the best calamari I have had in a long while and I have a VERY long list.
For my main I couldn’t not get the monkfish. If you haven’t had monkfish before and fancy treating yourself – if it’s on the menu then definitely get it. It can be pricey but it’s so worth the taste. The sweet, meaty lightness of monkfish and the aniseed flavour of fennel that goes gorgeously with this dish was a clear winner. The monkfish was meaty, filling and goes well with the sharp crunch of the fennel salad.
For dessert I indulged in Cold Chocolate and Cherry Fondant which was divine. As much as I love chocolate desserts they can sometimes linger on the palate and be a bit too heavy after a big dinner but this was light, smooth and indulging and more than enough to leave you with a smile on your face.
“Great food, great location and a great amount of varied choices”
